 pals doctorpals doctor

The American Heart Association PALS course is designed for healthcare professionals in the resuscitation of the pediatric patient at the advanced level using medications, cardiac monitoring, electrical therapy and advanced airway placement. The AHA recommends a basic skill set of CPR or BLS for Healthcare Provider and basic dysrhythmia recognition (EKGs) for this course.

PALS is designed for the Health Care Professional routinely involved with pediatric patients. The importance of effective team communication and appropriate action during resuscitation is emphasized throughout the class.  PALS uses simulated clinical scenarios which include hands-on practical, as well as American Heart Association instructional videos.

Students will be able to recognize and prevent causes of pediatric injuries and emergencies that require resuscitation. Students will learn how to respond to emergencies as an individual, a team and as a team leader.

PALS is taught using a combination of classroom instruction and video tools by the American Heart Association, as well as simulated clinical scenarios which include hands-on participation.

At the end of the course students must take a written exam consisting of 50 multiple choice questions.

PALS Renewal course: Students who have already taken the PALS course in the past may take the one-day renewal course. Students who have an expired PALS provider card or do who not possess a PALS provider card may still take the Renewal course. However, these students will not be given the option of remediation-- therefore if they cannot successfully meet the course completion requirements when tested they will need to return for a second day to complete the entire provider course (AHA Program Administration Manual page 51).

Cost: $459 for the full two-day course and $359 for the one-day renewal course.  Lunch and refreshments are included in the price of the course.
